Systematically and accurately grasping the variables and characteristics of the profound changes unseen in a century is a prerequisite for China to cope with the risks and challenges, and then turn them into opportunities. To face the problems squarely, we should be soberly aware of the severe challenges: the changing world order, the tasks of economic transformation and development against the global recession, the growth and changes of the Chinese society,and the mission of the Communist Party of China to maintain long-lasting governance. In view of these problems, we should always base ourselves on the people’s position and native consciousness, correctly handle the relationship between development, distribution and governance, clearly understand the nature of the contradictions and the possibility of their transformation, maintain the courage and determination to cope with external pressures, and never evade such major questions as ideological struggles and the differences of the direction of reform and policy-making positions. Thus, based on the correct orientation of reform and development ensured by party self-governance being exercised fully and with rigor, we will turn crises into opportunities and break the situation to move forward.
