Party of Labour of Austria has sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his propaganda in the Vienna parliament.

It is inappropriate for a representative of a reactionary, authoritarian regime to address the parliament of a neutral country. Europe needs a policy of neutrality and peace, not NATO’s war propaganda.

Against the backdrop of the Russia Ukraine War, the Austrian government lost its sense of reason and national responsibility. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky was allowed to speak via video link to the Austrian National Assembly with a message of further arms buildup and belligerence.

Russia’s responsibility in the current war cannot be denied, but Zelensky, the puppet of the United States and NATO, is by no means a peace dove and a democrat.

“Zelensky is by no means the representative of a democratic regime,” said Tibor Zenker, chairman of Party of Labour of Austria, “This regime emerged from an anti-democratic coup in 2014 supported by neo-Nazis, it has been waging a war against its own population in the Donbass for just as long, and it suppresses trade unions as well as unpopular religious communities. After the start of the current war, Zelensky has banned the largest opposition parliamentary party, a dozen other parties and critical media. All this does not correspond to the alleged ‘European values’ of democracy, freedom and the rule of law. No, Zelensky represents a deeply reactionary, repressive, illiberal regime in the service of the oligarchy and Western imperialism.”

For this reason, Zelenskiy should not have been given a seat in the Austrian parliament. However, Austria’s neutrality is also problematic. “It is another attack on our constitutional neutrality”, says Zenker, “to let a warlord supported and ammunitioned by the USA and NATO speak in parliament. The federal government and the opposition Social Democrats are once again inflicting serious damage on neutrality and driving Austria deeper and deeper into the Ukraine conflict.” This would deliberately expose its own people to grave danger and social unrest.

Party of Labour of Austria demands an active, consistent policy of sovereign neutrality and peace, rather than further involvement of Austria in sanctioning Russia and funding the Zelensky regime.

The people of Ukraine, Russia and Austria do not need further escalation of the war, but an immediate ceasefire and negotiations. Zelensky’s propaganda in the Austrian parliament is an irresponsible act, showing that the conservative Peoples’ Party, Greens, Social Democrats and Liberals have fully joined NATO.

Party of Labour of Austria condemns the imperialist and capitalist system that leads to wars that only the rulers are interested in. It is the peoples and the working class of all countries who suffer, and the bourgeoisie should pay the price. To sustainably eliminate the causes of oppression, exploitation, crisis and war requires a revolutionary class struggle for socialism.
